Privacy Policy
What this site collects, why, and the rights you have over it. Written in plain English.
This site is a personal portfolio. It doesn't use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind. Apart from the basic technical data every website needs to deliver a page, it receives no personal information about you unless you choose to email me.
Who I am
This website, LiamSalterCodes.com, is run by Liam Salter, a developer based in Wales, United Kingdom. For the purposes of UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018), I am the controller of any personal data collected through this site.
You can contact me about anything in this policy, including your rights, at hello@liamsaltercodes.com.
What I collect
Information collected automatically
When your browser requests a page, the services that host and deliver this site process technical information about the request: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time. This is needed to deliver the page to you and to keep the site secure. I don't use it to identify you or to build a profile of you.
This site does not use analytics, advertising, social media plugins, tracking pixels or fingerprinting.
Information you give me
If you email me, I receive your email address and whatever your message contains. Please don't send sensitive information, such as health details or financial account numbers.
You are never required to give me any personal information. If you choose not to contact me, the only consequence is that I can't reply to you.
How and why I use it
I use your information only to:
- deliver this website to you and keep it running securely
- read and reply to messages you send me
- discuss and, if we agree to work together, carry out a project or role you've contacted me about
- protect the site from abuse, such as attacks, spam or forged requests
The lawful bases I rely on under the UK GDPR are:
- Legitimate interests: delivering and securing this website, and responding to messages sent to me. These uses are limited to what you'd reasonably expect, and don't override your rights.
- Steps before entering a contract: where you contact me about hiring me or working together.
- Legal obligation: keeping business and tax records if we go on to work together.
I don't make decisions about you by automated means, including profiling. I will never sell your information, use it for marketing, or add you to a mailing list.
Who else handles it
I don't share your information with anyone for their own purposes. A small number of service providers process data on my behalf:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) hosts this website on servers in the UK (London region), and delivers it through Amazon CloudFront, a content delivery network that serves pages from a location near you.
- My email provider handles emails you send me and my replies.
Everything this site loads, including its fonts, scripts and images, is served from its own servers, so viewing a page doesn't send your information to any other company.
I may also disclose information if required by law, for example in response to a valid request from a court or regulator.
International transfers
This site is hosted in the UK. Because CloudFront serves pages from locations around the world, and email services can operate internationally, your information may be processed outside the UK. Where that happens, the transfer is covered by safeguards recognised under UK law, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum, or the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
How long I keep it
- Technical request data: kept only as long as needed to run and secure the site (normally no more than a few weeks in server and delivery logs), and not used to identify you.
- Messages and email correspondence: kept for up to 12 months after our last exchange, then deleted, unless we go on to work together. In that case I keep what's needed for the work and for my business and tax records for as long as the law requires (normally up to 6 years).
Security
I take appropriate technical and organisational steps to protect your information. All traffic to this site is encrypted with HTTPS, the site sends modern browser security headers, and it loads nothing from third parties. No system connected to the internet can be guaranteed completely secure, but if a breach affecting your information ever happens I'll act promptly, including telling you and the regulator where the law requires it.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- be told how your information is used (this policy)
- ask for a copy of the personal information I hold about you
- ask me to correct information that is wrong or incomplete
- ask me to delete your information
- ask me to restrict how I use your information
- object to my use of your information where I rely on legitimate interests
- ask for your information in a portable format, where that right applies
To use any of these rights, email hello@liamsaltercodes.com. It's free, and I'll respond within one month. I may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request.
Cookies
This site doesn't currently set any cookies. The full details are in the Cookie Policy.
Children
This site is not aimed at children, and I don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes to this policy
If the way this site handles personal information changes, for example if I add new features or services, I'll update this page before the change takes effect and update the "Last updated" date at the top.
Contact and complaints
If you have a question or concern about your information, please contact me first at hello@liamsaltercodes.com and I'll do my best to put it right.
You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or by phone on 0303 123 1113.
